Yeah. Yeah. I know. Everyone already knows how important it is to wear a helmet whenever you’re on a bike, motorcycle, skates or skateboard. I just want to remind you – do it! Every time. (And that goes for you, too, Grown-ups.)

In September 2003, I was in a serious bike accident. After hitting the back tire of my son’s bike, I went over my handlebars and landed on my head. I was knocked unconscious and rushed to the hospital. It happened so quickly; I don’t even remember falling. It was traumatic for my son and everyone who witnessed it, including several busloads of kids leaving school. I didn’t break any bones, but I needed stitches. And, worst of all, it took many months to fully recover from the head injury.

I don’t care if wearing a helmet makes you feel goofy or messes up your hair or if you just think you’ll never fall off your bike. It only takes a moment to change your life, so please always wear your helmet!

(By the way, Danger Mom was the name my daughter chose for my alter-ego when she began writing about the accident. Kind of catchy, don't you think? Able to stop school buses in a single moment. A real life example better than any lecture! Look out - it's Danger Mom!)
