Hi.
Well, you’ve made it to my bio page so that means you must be at least
a little curious about me. When I first started this website, I wrote a long
post about myself. I decided it was too boring. It’s okay if you want
to know things like where I grew up (Kansas City) or how I got started writing
(been writing since I could read), but I thought it might be fun to try something
different. So, having said that, here are 15 interesting things about me. Some
of them are things even my best friends don’t know! When you’re
done reading, think of 15 interesting facts about yourself. You don’t
have to share them with me or anyone else, but you might have some fun and better
appreciate what makes you unique.
• I collect PEZ. I even have a Christmas tree covered in PEZ dispensers and rolls of PEZ candy.
• Speaking of Christmas, I’m one of those weird, annoying people who get all their holiday shopping done early.
• I’m writing a children’s book with a former astronaut. (Wanna hear a secret? When I went to Washington DC, I saw her gloves in the Air and Space Museum and got all silly excited. I started pointing them out to complete strangers who were nearby. I’m sure they thought I was odd. Oh well.)
• My favorite ice cream is Ben and Jerry’s Chubby Hubby, although their Americone Dream is a very close second.
• I’m married to my high school sweetheart. We got together at a church youth group trip to a haunted house. I reached for his hand because I was “scared.” (What? You don’t believe me? He didn’t he either - but he also didn’t let go.)
• I am working toward my black belt in Taekwondo. The whole thing is very much out of my comfort zone and I love it.
• I can practically recite the entire movie “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.” (Sad but true. And now you have an idea of how old I am!)
• I have tossed a penny on Ben Frankin’s grave.
• The best birthday gift I ever received was an autographed copy of my favorite book, “To Kill a Mockingbird.”
• I used to be a Kindergarten teacher. (When I was little, I wanted to grow to be a teacher and a writer.)
• My three children have traditional names because I didn’t like having an unusual name growing up. (Sorry, Mom and Dad!) My three kids didn’t escape the whole weird name quirk though – my husband and I gave them middle names after television stars and a Beatles song.
• I sold the very first article I ever submitted. (Fellow writers, don’t hate me. If it makes you feel better, I’ve been rejected many, many times!)
• My ears are each pierced four times. I like the way it looks, plus I think it’s a form of rebellion against my mom who wouldn’t let me get my ears pierced until I was ten even though I begged her for years before that.
• I loved English and Science when I was a kid. Math? Uh. Not so much. (I did, however, marry a mathematician so I must have gotten over my math phobia.)
• I know how many teeth a polar bear has and at what temperature salt
water freezes. I also know who discovered King Tut’s tomb and which civilization
invented waterproof concrete (Go look the answers up yourself if you want to
know or read my books
).
